Prepping for the hike was fairly straightforward. It was a matter of packing up the tent, a flashlight, grabbing supplies, and a few dinner sandwiches. The hike to the top was not all that difficult however there were times that the added weight of the tent and the backpack were apparent.

After about 40 minutes of hiking, we reached the top. We set up the tent, ate our sandwiches, and popped open a few beers as the sun set on the distant Caribbean sea. The colors were gradients of pastel yellow, orange, and red which slowly transformed into various blues and then black.

As the light from the sun slowly faded, it was replaced with a shimmering blanket of street lamps and house lights from Santa Marta. There was a warm night breeze washing over the hills complementing the atmosphere of relaxation.

 

The night drew to a close and the city of Santa Marta seemed to expand a lot further than we expected. We sat outside for a little while longer and then jumped into our tent and fell asleep.

The next morning was very lively as the sun peeked over the mountains opposite Santa Marta. We gathered our garbage, dismantled our tent, and started back down to Finca Carpe Diem where we recounted our magical night with fellow travellers over a wonderful breakfast.
